The new year finds me in a new state. Well revisiting an old state, but at least a new city. I am now living in Orlando , Florida. I moved in with an old buddy from high school. So in accordance with my plans for the new year, not a New Year's resolution mind you, I am going to brew at least 12 batches this year. Twelve is the minimum but I'm shooting more for twenty-four. I'll continue with partial grain for the first few then plan to officially go to all grain.
Since my buddy is putting me up I figures I should see what he wants to drink. He told me an amber, so that's what is will be. So I went to the local brew supply store here in Orlando, Hearts Home Brew Supply. I picked myself up the ingredients for their American Special Amber. It's supposed to be something similar to a Sam Adams.
The recipe, which you can find on their website consists of:
3.3# Gold Liquid Malt Extract
1# M&F Light Dry Malt
2# Lager Grain M&F (cracked)
1# British Pale Grain (cracked)
.5# Caravienne Belgian Grain (cracked)
2oz. Chocolate Grain (cracked)
2oz. Hallertauer Hops
1oz. Tettnang Hops
1 vial Wyeast Liquid Yeast-California Lager or American Lager
I was substituted White Labs San Francisco Lager Yeast (WLP810). This recipe can supposedly be made as an ale or a lager. Since I don't have dedicated refrigeration for lagering, it had to be ale. I took an OG reading of 1.036 @ 74 degrees.
